Let's talk 'Words'

Updated: Oct 24, 2023

I'm not sure if it is because we have young kids and have been helping them with learning how to read and attempting to advance their skills in spelling, but lately I've spent some time thinking about the most important words when it comes to fitness and health. A couple of key words that I believe anyone should focus on is sustainability and consistency.

These words really go hand in hand, right? I spent some time trying to determine if there is a difference. Once you are able to build a consistent routine that works within your schedule, then it sounds like you will have sustainable success over time.

The main excuse I hear from people when determining how they could get fit is 'I don't have enough time'. What I would say to someone right back is 'well, what are prioritizing that really is not important and you could perhaps substitute for a quick walk or 20 minute workout?' Some people presume that you need 1 to 2 hours everyday to get 'fit', when really, you only need about 20/30 minutes of some sort of activity.

So I digress, what do you think is more sustainable and built for consistency? Exercising for 1 to 2 hours every other day or fitting in some sort of exercise routine that is about 20 to 30 minutes a day?

Another word I hate that gets thrown around since the dawn of time

it seems is 'diet'. The word 'diet' (at least to me) represents everything that is not consistent. A diet sounds very temporary and is not something that is built on being sustainable. I know I am not the only one who has the same sentiment.

You typically eliminate something that you really enjoy, perhaps it is bread or pizza (a couple of my favorites), and no one wants to eliminate something you enjoy eating for a long period of time, right? Therefore, a diet is temporary and quite the opposite of consistency.

Fitting in a short workout into your daily routine is something I started to do in my journey about a year and half ago and it is still something I do. While I still have pizza from time to time, eating pizza is something I do not do consistently.

Consistency. Sustainable success.

But how can you build exercise into your daily routine and habits? Stay tuned for tips and tricks!
